Research and Development

Our Managing Director, Rob Mulliner, has 20 years of experience in installing commercial audiovisual and lighting systems. This is an industry that is constantly evolving, and every single system has been different. The clue is in the name – we are innovators, always looking for new technological developments to improve our systems.

Research and Development

Meeting our clients and seeing the project location in person is, for us, a crucial step in any new project. By doing so, we can ensure we design a system that meets all of the client’s requirements. Once we have this initial brief, we get to work undertaking the necessary research to build the ideal system.

Why Research and Development is essential

Research and development are both essential to system design as there are many factors to consider when installing systems into your buildings. We continuously carry out research and development on all projects to ensure the client’s requirements are met. These factors include construction, infrastructure, environment, and requirements.

Construction

We have to consider the existing materials used in the building where the system is to be installed. This can impact on the technology and hardware that we decide to use. hearing loops

Infrastructure

The existing infrastructure within any given building has a huge impact on how a system is developed. Sending voltage or other signals between sources and audiovisual equipment is often not as simple as you’d think. The available cable length, and the other electrical supplies this might run alongside can both impact on how effectively signals can reach equipment.

Environment

The environment in which commercial audiovisual or lighting systems will be installed has a bearing on what equipment can be used. The surrounding materials will affect how sound travels and is absorbed, the desired resolution of a projector, throw distance, projection size, brightness, lens, and location. So, we must consider all these things when developing a system. Screens need to be the correct size for the room and have the desired viewing angle together with resolution and accessibility. Lighting requires hanging points, projection angles, and multiple control points. Researching the technology to achieve the best result when developing a system is key to meeting all requirements.

Requirements

We have to address all the above factors in order to meet the client’s brief. This is the most important part of our research and development at Sound Innovations, as we want all our systems to exceed expectations – we only want to provide the best. Technology is moving faster now than at any time in history and we continually update the technologies we use. Through ongoing research and development, we are able to ensure all our products are cutting edge.

Keeping ahead of the curve

Our clients often want to discuss the latest technology with us, and at Sound Innovations, we tend to deal directly with manufacturers who offer us training and insight into their latest products and their most advanced tech. We will often visit their sites across the globe to enable us to achieve this level of research and design. Recently we have visited Prowise UK, FBT Audio Italy, Optoma Europe UK, and International Audio Group IAG China, to name a few.

Not wanting to miss out on new technologies and advances, we visit trade exhibitions around the world to keep ourselves ahead of the curve. This enables us to visit both large and small manufacturers and companies offering innovative solutions. Some of the trade shows we have visited in recent times include; Messe Frankfurt, NAMM USA, ISE Amsterdam, BETT London, Plasa London & Leeds. You can often find information about our visits to these on our Facebook Page, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
